Wow Robin! Beautiful indeed! The illustrations are out of this world lovely! Every child, no matter how old, needs this book.
Robin Berndt has written a book for children that has such a unique perspective to aid children in finding hope and joy under some difficult circumstances that children may go through. This book is written with love and a truly genuine desire to be helpful. I believe it will help children to be aware that there is another way to think about things, but written in a way they can accept and understand. Thank you, Robin, for writing this much-needed book!
As the author of Black Dog Escape and The Suicide Detective, I appreciate stories that explore deeper meanings. The children’s book What Am I Really gently reveals to kids that they are more than just physical beings. It beautifully helps children understand that their purpose, life, and identity go beyond material things. This book is a touching tribute to what truly makes us human and the essence of a meaningful life.

What Am I Really? is a question we all ask ourselves at some point. The answer is beautifully expressed in this book for children that can also be appreciated by adults. What Am I Really? reminds us that we are all full of light and love. The book invites the reader to, “put your hand over your heart and go to the beautiful truth inside you where you are never alone.”

The beautiful illustrations give life to the message expressed in What Am I Really; that we are more than what we can see. Robin captures the essence of ourselves as love and that sharing this love with others only amplifies it in ourselves. This book is a healing balm for our youth who often express loneliness in their isolation.

I have read this book in different ways. First like a mom, then like a teacher. In both ways it was really useful and interesting. The book showed me how to produce positive thoughts and feel safety in that big changeable world. The interactive structure of the book encourages kids to reflect on the affirmations, prompting them to apply these positive messages to their daily lives. This not only fosters self-esteem but also equips them with valuable coping strategies for the challenges they may encounter.

Such a wonderful reminder for kids AND grownups of who we really are! I would have loved for someone to have shared this book with me when I was growing up. Simple, yet profound! Kudos to Robin Berndt for relaying such an important message to us all in these seemingly tumultuous times.

I can’t even tell you how this touched me. I wish I would have had it for my daughter and for myself years ago. What Am I Really? gently prompts that we can help ourselves by holding positive thoughts and feelings – that we are capable of bringing calm, beauty, and safety to ourselves and sending that out to the world. Nurturing and sharing how to do this is so valuable and needed for children as well as adults. Beautifully written and so relatable!

I wish I had this book growing up! What am I really? touches the soul page to page and reminds us to look inward to embrace the loving and beautiful beings we all are! While this is such a valuable tool for children to learn, as an adult I found it also touched a part of my heart that deeply needed to hear this message.

What Am I Really? is the simple but deeply profound message that we all have a light in us. It is something that both children and adults alike can learn from. And what a beautiful reminder that no matter how different we are in appearances, beliefs, values we are all alike in this way, we can all choose to let our light shine to remind others that we are not as different as we seem.

So beautiful….so heartfelt…so encouraging…it reminds me to be kind to myself and to others and I will find peace in who I am and that I need to give myself a hug every day and others around me! This is a powerful message you have written for children as well as for adults!
